Cleaning advice has a particular risk: a confident sentence that is slightly wrong can mean a ruined floor or, in the worst case, a harmful fume. These standards describe how this guide tries to avoid that, so you can decide how far to rely on any page.
How we source
Every article lists its sources at the foot. We prefer public bodies: occupational safety agencies, health protection agencies, environmental agencies, university extension services and the public pages of standards and trade associations. A number, a threshold, a definition or a standard goes into an article only if an editor has opened the source and found it there. If we cannot confirm a figure, we leave it out or describe the idea without it.
How we handle safety topics
Several subjects touch health and safety: product labels, mixing chemicals, disinfectant use, pressure equipment and work at height. On those we report what the named agencies say, we attribute it, and we point back to the product label, the safety data sheet and qualified people when the sources do. We never suggest ignoring a label.
Products, brands and prices
We do not recommend, rank or review products, brands or companies, and we do not quote prices. A brand or program is named only when a public standard or agency page names it, for example a certification scheme, and then only to say what that scheme states about itself.
How we write
We use plain words and short paragraphs, and we define technical terms when they first appear. We state exceptions instead of hiding them and avoid scare tactics and sales language. There is no advertising on this site and nothing on it is paid for.
Updates and corrections
Each article shows the date it was last updated. We recheck an article when a major source changes its guidance. If you find an error, an out-of-date statement or a broken link, tell us through the contact page. Factual errors are corrected in the article itself and the date changes. We do not leave a known mistake in place.
Independence
The guide is independent of any cleaning business, manufacturer, supplier, trade body or agency. It does not take payment for coverage, and it offers no cleaning, washing or maintenance services of any kind. You can read more on the about page.
The short version
Opened sources only, attributed safety statements, no product recommendations, dated pages and open corrections.
